Career at the Bar

Abstract

On 12th October, 1995 in this very hall, I had the good fortune to preside over the admission to the Bar of some students of the Nigeria Law School. Today the 14th day of March, 1996, it is again my singular honour and privilege as the Chairman of the distinguished Body of Benchers to admit to the Bar on behalf of this august Body this batch of students, who have successfully passed their Bar Examination.

I am indeed very happy to be part of this historic and momentous event and to be at the helm of affairs of the day. I thank God for that. I am also thankful to God Almighty for making it possible for us to assemble here, hale and hearty to celebrate the success of the new graduands of the Law School and to be able to perform this ceremony of call to the Bar.

Graduands of today, I know that all of you are indeed very happy no doubt, you have all worked very hard. You have come a long way and today's ceremony is the culmination of your determined efforts, your dedication to duty and your resolution to be part of a great and noble profession. It is my fervent hope and prayer that you will ultimately find fulfilment in this chosen career.

For going through the Law School without a hitch and being adjudged fit and proper to be called to the Bar, you deserve our commendation. I salute and congratulate each and everyone of you for this great achievement. We thank Almighty God for seeing you this far. May I also on your behalf thank your parents, guardians, friends, relations, well-wishers and all who have in one way or the other assisted, encouraged and supported you to fulfil your ambition. It is gratifying that their hopes have not been dashed. Thanks be to Almighty God.
