Admissibility of Computer/ Electronically Generated Evidence In Nigeria - A Welcome Development

Abstract

A century ago, iPads, iPods, laptops and net books were science fiction, but are today's mode of communication. While telecommunications evolve by the day, e-mails, digital photos, automated teller machines, word processing, instant messages etc are now taking over paper documentations or works. This globally enjoyed technology is abused by deviants in our world today, leading to new ways of perpetrating criminal activities e.g. cyber crimes and electronic crimes. It is in this light that the Nigerian Evidence Act of 1945 was amended in 2011. This work will examine the admissibility of computer generated evidence under the Evidence Act of 2011 in Nigeria.
